This project came after a period of exploration of the possibilities of the electric guitar as a classical "concert" instrument. It includes the works of four living American composers, representing some of today's current styles and compositional trends: until it blazes by Eve Beglarian; another possibility by Christian Wolff; hair of the thing that bit you by Anthony Porter; and freeHorn by Larry Polansky. It was supported by New Music USA, made possible by annual program support and/or endowment gifts from the Helen F. Whitaker Fund, Aaron Copland Fund for Music, Mary Flagler Cary Charitable Trust. The album is available as a gatefold vinyl with digital download, or in digital-only editions.

Released July 31, 2014.

The tones and drones that arise from [the guitar’s] interaction with the algorithm have the feel of an alap in Indian classical music, slow and atmospheric massaging of sounds in preparation for a fiery electric raga
